So what I'm seeing is (a) the build isn't broken, (b) it is in fact quite
fine [see (a)], (c) it produces a WAR (plus some JARs) and (d) there's a
plugin that is out of date and even though it works we should probably open
an Improvement JIRA issue to get it upgraded since we like to stay on top of
those.

I'm glad (a) is true otherwise I wouldn't be able to cut the 3.4.9 release
:-)  Feel free to do open a JIRA improvement for the plugin or I'll just
star this thread and do it when we switch to the next deployment cycle.

FYI, I've never actually had much luck in IntelliJ when attempting to
compile with AspectJ (I think my error was always a memory issue, but I
haven't tried it recently).  Never had the time to really delve into
investigating why.
