This is the method I'd recommend. We use it for indicating whether the user authenticated via user/password or X.509 certificate and it works well. In particular the AuthenticationMethod attribute ought to be available to clients. What exactly is unclear? > If possible I wouldn't like the change the cas-client as I'm a SAML newbie. Most CAS clients support SAML out of the box, so it's only a matter of fairly straightforward configuration changes to use SAML.
