I'm working on porting SAML support in CAS from opensaml version 1.x to latest 2.x and I keep asking myself the following question: why do I have to write painfully verbose code to build up an XML DOM document? There must be a better way. I'm hopeful there's movement in the identity space to something better whether it's improved tools or simpler standards.
