Fully agree with that point. I'd say regular expressions generally allow a lot of rope with which to hang oneself: anything non-trivial is difficult to read and verification is a tedious manual process that only the most diligent folks will complete. It occurs to me that there may be value in a tool within the service manager that provides some test matching capability, which would go a long way to answering questions like, "I wonder if this expression matches what I think it does."
