That sounds inordinately high. I haven't built on my MacBookPro recently, which is much less powerful than my workstation, but I recall that with tests enabled it was on the order of 1-2 minutes. 8-10 indeed sounds painful. I'm thinking we may need to start a fund to get you a new workstation. ;) I'm big -1 on decreasing logging levels across the board without some facility for easily turning up a package or the root threshold. It's not terribly hard to manually configure at present, but it could be much easier. If you want to take a crack at some build improvements, I think it could be very beneficial. I typically want to turn the logging _up_, but I can see a use case for turning them down by default for daily builds.
