One minor question about "correctness", based on my (possibly poor)
understanding of XML schemas and namespaces -- if we are going to allow for
ad-hoc attributes, should the xmlns:cas='http://www.yale.edu/tp/cas' be
removed from the root element, or possibly should an xmlns be defined for
the ad-hoc elements?

Or, as is quite likely, do I simply misunderstand the application of
schemas and namespaces? My question simply arises from seeing validating
parsers fail on XML they do not expect.
