In particular, you need to add a BindConnectionInitializer to the ConnectionConfig bean.
Daniel and I agreed to document the Fast Bind authentication method for AD, which doesn't use the component above. We provided a second example for the general authenticated search case that uses BindConnectionInitializer. That configuration could apply to directories other than AD; it's not the best option for most AD environments, however, since searching can be avoided in most cases.
I made some suggestions to Marvin for improving the documentation, stay tuned for updates.
I just pushed some updates to the LDAP configuration with an example targeted at AD. Please review and provide feedback. We're working to sanity check these, but I believe it's close if not correct. Let us know if it works for you. Revisions, edits, and doc bugfixes welcome.
