The http://www.jasig.org/cas/protocol does not specify what Content-Type should the response of /serviceValidate have.
Should be text/xml since it's an XML payload. I'm not sure we do that in practice but it's probably text/xml.
Is there a best practice?
Most deployers probably do whatever the distribution ships with; again I'm not sure it's text/xml but it probably is.
I guess clients don't care?
Correct, at least for the "official" Jasig clients. I've worked with quite a few and have never seen one that cared.
