I don't believe it matters what alias you give the certificate (but I always use the same names).  One thing to do is just double check that you are using the proper JVM (I know people have accidentally used the wrong one).

CAS server is working great, and I've has the whole setup working with a trusted cert. I just need to get it working in our test environment.
