this works for me:
cas.authn.mfa.globalPrincipalAttributeNameTriggers=carLicense
*#*cas.authn.mfa.globalPrincipalAttributeValueRegex=

(note the second is commented out) and I can put mfa-gauth or mfa-u2f in 
the carLicense attribute of the Principal to select which one works

(works on 5.1.2 at least, not so sure about 5.1.1)
