Dear Marvin and Andrew, Thankyou. Using the debug tool Marvin suggested and looking at the domain stuff that Andrew talked about I finally found the config error.
The domain is set in 3 places 1) cas-servlet.xml 2) warnCookieGenerator.xml 3) ticketGrantingTicketCookieGenerator.xml While we had changed 2 and 3 we did not change 1 so with the debug turned on I continued to see the old domain being referenced. Using grep across the CAS directory I found the cas-servlet.xml references. Once they were changed things worked. I then tested the cluster and that is also working which is great.
