I don't believe the SPNEGO code checks the renew=true parameter. I'm not sure if it would have any effect. What happens if they log out? I ask that because if logging out forces them to re-enter their SPNEGO credentials then it may make sense to add the renew=true check. Otherwise, adding renew=true would have no effect.
