I am pleased to announce the first release of CASShib. This release is
an extension to the CAS 3.3.1 server. CASShib enables the federation of
applications using CAS.
The CASShib Project is located at http://code.google.com/p/casshib/.
Downloads and documentation are available from this location. A
Discussion Group is also located at http://groups.google.com/group/casshib.
* CASShib Shibbolizes the CAS server but allows application developers
to use a CAS client rather than the Shibboleth Service Provider software
to federate their application. This may be of benefit to those who are
already using CAS or for those who seek an alternative approach to
federating applications.
* Besides federation CASShib also offers the opportunity to leverage the
sophistication of Shibboleth attribute release policies for local
CASified applications.
An overview of CASShib is available at
http://code.google.com/p/casshib/wiki/CASShibExplained.
Status of the code:
CASShib can be considered experimental stage. I intend for this code to
be deployed into production at UC Merced primarily as a way for local
applications to consume attributes that are released from our Shibboleth
Identity Provider. There are security considerations. Please consult
this page for further explanation of these considerations:
http://code.google.com/p/casshib/wiki/CASShibExplained#Service_registration_and_security
I especially welcome any comments regarding security aspects.
Discussions on this can be started in the discussion group at
http://groups.google.com/group/casshib.
