I usually don't reply to inappropriate "rants" because in most cases it
doesn't lead anywhere constructive.

I happen to luckily have a Solaris 10 64-bit VM lying around.  I downloaded
CAS 3.3.2 from the web site (ZIPed version), as well as JDK 1.6 (my local
Solaris only had the JRE), and Maven 2.1.0.

Configured JAVA_HOME and M2_HOME and executed "mvn clean package install"
and it worked.
