I believe the X509CredentialsAuthenticationHandler, http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/display/CASUM/X.509+Certificates, should meet your needs. We use this to non-interactively authenticate users when a eToken Pro USB device containing a client cert is inserted into the computer.
