In which case, I am totally lost. Because I haven't changed the
default TimeoutExpirationPolicy settings (2 hours) at all. The only
thing I have changed is the session-timeout value in web.xml (from 5
minutes to 4 hours). Now I have changed that back to 10 minutes. It
doesn't explain the sudden outburst of OutOfMemoryErrors in the logs
nor does it explain why the TicketRegistryCleaner is running so often.

Any suggestions, Ryan and Scott?
