Have you tried the fixes discussed at https://wiki.jasig.org/display/CASUM/SSL+Troubleshooting+and+Reference+Guide? Based on your stack trace, this is a problem with your CAS _client_ not trusting the CAS server certificate. Focus on the client, and if all else fails do a client-side SSL trace and post it here.
