Along these same lines, is it possible to send an additional attribute along
with the response (altUid) and then tell the client and/or Apache to map
that attribute as the user? If so, where do I populate the attribute from
LDAP into the principal? Would the resultAttributeMapping be the place to
start?

Patrick

CAS doesn't have a facility for service-specific attribute mappings.
I believe this would be a very valuable feature and easily justified;
for example, a simplified version of the Shib attribute resolver and
filter APIs. I would imagine, though, that even a simple
implementation would require substantial work and is therefore
unlikely to happen in the 3.x series. I encourage you to file a Jira
improvement issue for this for CAS 4.
