I reread https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2332936
Thanks for citing that thread. I'd recommend all deployers querying
LDAP directories carefully read the related bug reports:
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=7133330
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=7157903
I fully believe that this is a problem for some applications, but I'm
not certain it affects everyone based on my investigation. I ran our
load test against our current build on 1.6.0u24 followed by a second
test against 1.6.0u29 and saw a measurable but small (~3%) decrease in
throughput. That's nowhere near the reported values that are orders of
magnitude less. I wonder whether some directories are more strongly
affected than others. The LDAP-specific bug report (first one above)
specifically mentioned Active Directory. Are you querying AD perhaps?
Our directory is OpenLDAP, for what it's worth.
