Still wrestling with this. As an experiment, I took the war file built on
each of these systems, and deployed them on the other system. The error
stays with the host, and not the war file. That is, the cas.war file from
the host where it demonstrably working, throws the same exception on the
host where I originally encountered the error. And the cas.war file from
the host where I originally encountered the error works fine on the host
that was working as expected. I've even tarred up the whole work/ build
directory from the good host and rebuilt and redeployed from there on the
bad host with similar results. This seems to clearly indicate that
whatever the problem is, it's local to the host itself.

They're running the same version of Java (1.8.0_31) and Tomcat (8.0.20),
Tomcat confs and libs are also identical.

I'm out of ideas on what else to consider.
