Do you know how the ldap.authn.format should look in the
cas.properties file? Did mines look correct?
Your advice helped but I think the error I get now is for the
format of the authentication formatting in my cas.properties file.

That is common search filter used for DN resolution against Active Directory.
It should be set for the userFilter property on your DnResolver.
