Thanks for sharing that Matt.  It looks like it will do just fine - if I
make any changes it'll be perhaps to retrieve the user's roles.  I'll
let you know if I do make any changes which you could incorporate.

Thanks also for the links Scott.  I was particularly interested in the
ldaptemplate sf project which I hadn't known about.
