=============================================================
Dear JA-SIG Community Members,

As some of you may have read in the most recent JA-SIG Newsletter (
http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/x/DoAK), the "JA-SIG Server and Clearinghouse
Team" has been busy performing maintenance and service upgrades on the
JA-SIG server. During this time, we've upgraded and consolidated Apache
Tomcat instances, upgraded JIRA and Confluence, and added much needed disk
space. In addition, we recently applied for and were awarded a Sun Academic
Excellence Grant. This will provide us more hardware to meet the community's
needs for enhanced web based collaboration tools with the anticipated growth
from our new membership efforts.

It is at this time that the team is looking to engage the greater JA-SIG
community for ideas about how we can improve the services that we offer
which support the ongoing development of JA-SIG administered products such
as uPortal, CAS, and HyperContent.

Below is a list of some of the collaborative web based services that we
currently offer and are interested in your feedback on:

1. JIRA - task and bug tracking
2. Confluence - enterprise wiki
3. Subversion - source code version control system
4. CVS - source code version control system
5. FishEye - web based source code version control viewer
6. Crucible - web based application for team code reviews
7. QuickBuild - web based application for build automation
8. CAS - central authentication instance
9. Mailing Lists - a web based service for creating and maintaining
mailing lists with the "lists.ja-sig.org" domain name

Another important service to mention, is the "JA-SIG Clearinghouse", which
is a repository for listing and describing various code snippets, programs,
and applications produced by community participants. This service used to be
hosted in a uPortal instance; however, we migrated the content from the
uPortal instance into Confluence as an interim solution, in response to
various maintenance issues with the older instance. We are interested in
your feedback regarding the usefulness of this service and whether you feel
that the Confluence based solution is sufficient or whether we need to
investigate other solutions with more robust features. If you would like
more details about this service, please follow this link:

Lastly, please let us know if you are interested in any other new services.
Feel free to document any of your ideas in our wiki, located here:
http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/x/SIIX. We look forward to working with you on
this effort to build a great suite of tools that can satisfy the needs of
the community.

Sincerely,
Aaron Godert
JA-SIG Board Member and Liaison to the Server and Clearinghouse Team
