You are correct. It has something to do with the view. I was using the simple
view, thinking it would be easier to customize. When I switched back the to
default view it started working correctly.

Something is misconfigured. That response is from the login page (i.e. when
you tried to validate the ticket it returned the login page). Either you are
pointing to the wrong validation endpoint or the the views on the server side
point to the wrong JSP pages.
