Thanks for a super quick reply! :) I did take a look at it before. However I
couldn't make much sense out of it. Probably because I don't know about
Maven yet. Would you recommend me learning Maven then?

Any additional pointers to resources which tell me how to write my own
custom authentication handlers and integrate them into CAS would be welcome.
