Jonathan, I don't know if increasing the size of the buffer is the way to go. The person who I suggested that too never responded. I've opened a JIRA issue for it and I will double check against the sample Google code to make sure we're not any smaller.
If you can re-create the error and see what the size of the message is that is causing the problem that would be helpful.
