I'm not so much interested anymore in the fact that things are
'changing'. Changing can take decades. Things are *changed* elsewhere.
I reckon MSFT is just fine with things 'changing' so long as they get
to control that changing process and the 'changing' never results in a
full-blown change. I'm afraid that's where we are with open source in
the .Net ecosystem. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I wouldn't count on
it. ;)

I would have written essentially what you wrote above a year ago,
especially in regards to others "hav[ing] to take care of themselves
quite a lot more." However, my experiences with python/django/etc.
have not borne that out. Turns out Microsoft wasn't doing me anywhere
near the amount of favors I thought they were.

I'll [try to] be quiet now. I just wanted to share my perspective on
this matter.
