I doubt there are many users of Castle.Core that use it as a standalone. Everyone needs DP, Castle.Core is just another required dll (at least for me). The decision to merge DP into Core was a good one. The only real problem left is that other OSS projects don't have the same release cycles as we do. So it may take them another 6 months to bring an official vNext while DP releases fairly regularly (that is good!)
