IMHO you should keep nvelocity templates as dumb as possible. If you're using MonoRail, you can just do PropertyBag["myKey"] = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["myKey"]; If you're using plain stand-alone NVelocity, pass the value through the VelocityContext.
