Ok, I'll figure out some other ways of solving this then. 

In general I think this should be supported, but I also understand that
the refactoring process takes time. 

It would be nice if either concrete class names or preferably factory
methods, with concrete class names just using a predefined factory
method, could be attached to all types of field definitions.

I must say I'm impressed by the progress you've made with Castor the
last year. About a year ago I evaluated Castor vs. TopLink and found
TopLink much more suitable for my needs, but after now having revisited
the Castor the number of new features is awesome. This looks like a
TopLink-killer to me. :)
