Annette,

This sounds very odd. I've just grabbed both the jars you mention
above and they are just fine. It's even more odd that you downloaded the zip file and 
it was corrupt. How are you grabbing these files? Via a browser I'm guessing.

One alternative is to grab this file:

ftp://ftp.exolab.org/pub/castor/castor_0.9.3.9/castor-0.9.3.9-src.zip

but I'm guessing that won't work because you already cannot work
with the zip files.

Another alternative is to grab all the sources from the CVS tree
and build your own jars (please see
http://castor.exolab.org/cvs.html#Anonymous-Access).
