Hi David,
You can perfectly use another Parser such Crimson but you also need a serializer. Castor is using by default the Apache serializer distributed in the xerces jar. So if you want to use Crimson and the apache serializer, you need to build your own version of the Apache serializer or you need to put Xerces jar and Crimson jar in your classpath (in the right order).

I noticed that in the jar file the package org\apache\xml\serialize is in xerces, but not in crimson.
