Laslo, just for info: a week or two ago I'd fall in the same problem and went into the source code. Generally the serializer uses UTF-8 per default, but as I reported in my mail in castor this setting was changed to null. No idea, why? I'd provided a simple patch fixing this behaviour but I got no response :-(
