I understand that I take on this beast solo ... would you be interested in reviewing or publishing any changes (including getting it compliant with recent releases) if I can make it so --- or is this being maintained by anyone at this time ?

Hi Peter,
You're on your own I'm afraid, I believe it was initially built against
Castor 0.9.3, but I've never used it, so I can't say for sure.
