Just wondering if there is a way, similar to perhaps the HIGH-LOW generator, of obtaining the next available key (or value) of a field? For example, if you have the below table:
PERSON ============ ID NAME --- -------- 1 John 2 Lynda 3 Jim 4 Sue 5 Jose
and the record having ID=4 is deleted, using the special generator/technique, is there a way to return the value "4" as the next available value.
If such a generator/technique does not exist, what would be the best to go about accomplishing this, besides using JDBC, retrieving the ID column, and looping through comparing the ID value to the loop index (+1)?
