The solution is to include a copy of xerces in your classpath. I included both xercesImpl.jar and xml-apis.jar in my classpath; although perhaps xercesImpl.jar is sufficient. AFAIK you can take any recent Xerces release.

its at runtime. Castor is trying to access old xerces methods that don't exist in the jdk 1.4, which is what you describe in your email below.

What is the problem that they (your developers) have? Can you be a bit more specific, perhaps?

What stuff doesn't build? Castor libraries themselves? I use the precompiled versions.

 

The problems I had are runtime, not with building anything.

 

I read in another thread some time ago that there's a problem with castor and xerces2; something is needed there (search for e-mail on the list from Klas Kalass, regarding source-generator patches). But that was a runtime problem I believe and Xerces2 isn't part of jdk1.4.

Thanx for the info. My developers are saying there is a problem, that our stuff will not build with jdk 1.4 and castor. I am just trying to find out what is known out there.

I don't exactly have a lot of spare time so I haven't really looked at the problem. I was trying not to. If you can remember what the problem you had was that would be great.

I'm not experiencing any problems. There's one thing that didn't work for me, that is perhaps attributable to me using jdk1.4, but I forgot what it was exactly...

It had to do with me trying to marshall not to output-stream, but to dom-document or something like that... Can't remember the details; I'll have to do some research what exactly I tried to do and what problem exactly it gave.

(But it was something about SAX1 vs. SAX2 and the compatibility layers, and jdk1.4 comes with SAX2 parsers included -- hence my statement that it could be attibutable to using jdk1.4)
