I also receive this problem. I posted about it this problem two weeks
ago, but was not able to resolve the issue. See the following post:

I still have this issue today and am forced to run Castor with validation
turned off. I would appreciate if someone could provide some insight
into why this line would be throwing a NPE? Keith, would you like me to
file a bug report on this?
