Hm, libjnjni.so or jkjni.so is not built ... here's my configure line:
./configure --with-apxs=/usr/bin/apxs --with-apr-util=/home/ratze/apr-util-0.9.4 --with-apr=/home/ratze/apr-0.9.4 --with-tomcat41=/var/tomcat/ --with-java-home=/usr/java/java --with-jni

Do i need it to be built separately?

You probably did not include the jni option in the ./configure script.

I noticed some deviation with 2.0.4 from instructions. Instead of jkjni.so, there is a libjkjni.so library produced in the modules directory.

Did you copy this file in your Apache modules directory?
