Got ya. So does commons actually use log4j and is just a nicer layer to work with? Or is it completely different?
Jakarta Commons Logging is a thin layer that allows the underlying logging mechanism to be changed without cutting new code to do so. For example, if you wanted to use the JDK14 logging, you could simply change the commons-logging.properties file to point to that logging package and away you go. No code required.
