I got patch for cygwin and I wanted to make sure that I was in sync with your change. I don't see how the patch fixes the problem. Maybe I am missing something. I looks like you catch the exception and you later re-throw it. I think the net-effect is the same.

To apply patches to files or sets of files, just use the Unix patch utility like so:

    patch <original file> <diff file>
