Hi Bob, Jeff, I agree with Bob's suggestion on running lazy jacks thru blocks on the mast and then down the mast to a cleat(mine go back to the cockpit), but with one more suggestion. Put the blocks on the spreaders 8 inches outward from the mast. Run the bitter end of line thru an eyestrap positioned 6 feet from the deck. That will give you a window of 16 inches instead of 5 inches to raise the sail without fouling the main. This was from an design in Good Old Boat. You should add a third leg with this design, although I've seen factory installed lazy jacks installed on the spreaders with only 2 legs.
With this design be sure you have a topping lift or rigid boom vang to avoid a load on the lasy jacks. My next design problem is to figure out how to relax the lazy jacks while sailing without going forward to the mast.
