Hey I resemble that remark –

I used a piece of Oriental looking runner – got it the local home center  they sell it as stair runner.  They just happened to have some that was just about the right width for the cabin rubber backed no slipping. They even provided edging to put on the ends actually I told them I wasn’t handy and might screw it up so they gave me some extra and there was enough to do all the exposed cut edges.  Lasted 3 years – getting replaced this year because it’s starting to look a little worn I suppose I could have it cleaned but figured it was time to change colors – since it only ran me about 35 bucks total it’s cheap enough.

Hey Ted, nice to meet another local guy!  There are three or four of us that appear from time-to-time.  Usually when TF isn’t talking with Dave <G>.

Snaps really aren’t needed.  Because of all the cut-outs, just laying it down will hold it in place.  I went to Lowes two years ago and purchased a Berber remnant for $40.  After the cut-out, I just laid it down.  It doesn’t move one bit.

Subject: catalina27-talk: Replacing carpet

I'm replacing the original carpet in my 82 Catalina 27. I brought the old carpet home for the winter, thinking I would take it to a regular carpet shop and ask them to cut a piece and install the snaps, using the old carpet as a template.

I had previously checked with CatalinaOwners.Com, and they don't carry carpet.

Has anyone done this? Are there special specs for boat carpet? Is it likely the snaps will be in the right place when I go to install it? Would I be better off to buy the carpet as a rectangle, lay it on the floor, then cut it and install the snaps in place? Any ideas would be appreciated.
