Hi,
I did that job last summer.  No setscrews on mine.  I had a tool made at a machine shop that follows the pattern on page 451 of Nigel Calder's Boatowner Electrical and Mechanical Manual. 3rd ed.  Worked well.  I also used it to pull the prop. Check your engine alignment when you are through.  Mine was way off - (maybe an eighth of an inch) which caused the problem in the first place.

I'm getting ready to replace the cutlass bearing and building a tool to get the old one out. I've got the option of using the typical brass shelled type which is what is firmly stuck in there or one of the new composite types. There was an article in one of the sailing mags about replacing the bearing and they were pretty keen on using the new composite type. Has anybody used one that type? A! nd I've spent 2 days in the freezing cold under the boat with a light scraping bottom paint of the strut and I'll be darned if I can find a set screw. Anybody know if the C27 has set screws in the strut to hold in the bearing? Hat to be freezing my a___ off looking for something that don't exist.
