Appreciate everyone's comments on the outboard engines. Looks like
technology has improved on the 4-strokes. The Honda 2 hp 4-strokes were
designed to be laid on either side. Being air cooled no
worries about water impellers, gas mixing and they are very quiet. They
are also lightweight at 27 lbs. But like most Honda anything, used ones
are almost the price of new ones so a used 2-cycle isn't looking to bad
even if I need to mix gas and oil.

-----Original Message-----OK. I didn't answer the question. Mostly, because I don't have an answer; however, since that has never stopped me before... I'd go with the long shaft because it seems to make more sense if you ever wanted to use it for the C-27 in an emergency.
