It will give you distance between two points but its planning features are quite limited.

There is no facility to enter a series of waypoints and then calculate time based on tide and boat speed. It is a basic product.

You can enter waypoints but it doesn’t have the features of plotting a course and having the program show you how much you are deviating from that course.

 

It sure doesn’t compare to the Nobletech Visual Navigation Suite. There again it doesn’t cost what that product does either.

For me it is fun to have something that will show me where I am on the chart and isn’t a 4x4 mono display with a 5 year old chart card.

I took a look at this Force9 product web site.  Very interesting.   But as I already have a chart plotter I’m more interested in using software like this to plan out a trip, mostly plotting distances.  Does it do that?

The Force 9 product I use is shareware. http:www.atm-international.com

I have not researched it in the last couple of years so there may be a free product, $35 for this is the right price for me.  Now that it works with the free charts I’m really happy.
