Harvey,

Mine is on one of those stretch cords thingies (technical sailors' term) and is plugged into the panel just to port of the ladder.  I use it topside all the time, for just the use you  intend and for spotting unlit marks at night (which, I have gratefully discovered, are numbered with reflective paint, making them visible way over 100 yds..  (Well, I'm and old dingy and lake sailor, and I'm learning things all the time). 500,000cp is barely adequate, however.  All the 1,000,000cp units I found are self battery rechargeables, which, for some reasson I forget, I didn't want.

Hi Rudy,
Thanks for your reply, but I forgot to say that I wanted to mount it in the cockpit, where I could use it at the wheel w/o a long cord going to the main cabin. but if the coaming boxdosen't work out, your is the nexr solution,

Harvey,

Mount it reasonably high, of course.  My switches are all at  factory height, say  12" off the floor boards.  Now if I get 4" on the floorboards and eveything is shloshing around,  bzzzt!

Harvey,

Mine, from West, has a plastic cover that's hinged to the body.  That's, I suppose, to splashproof it.  It cant be anymore waterproof than the rear side of it, where the connections are, no?  And, of course, it's not waterproof while it's being used.

Hi,

I have a 12 volt searchlight with a cigarette lighter end. I know you can buy a receptacle with a watertight seal, but as soon as you open the seal and insert the cigarette lighter adapter in it,  it is no longer waterproof.  Any suggestions?
