Erik,
The prop shaft uncouples from the transmission at the flange.  You will see it aft of the transmission, held together with four bolts (should be safety wired).  After the flange is unboletd, and all of the other connections are undone, the engine can be removed leaving the prop shaft, seal and all in the boat.

Can the engine be removed without letting water into the boat via the prop shaft?  How do you seal it off?
