I spent a good part of the day working on the boat and hoping I can get a mechanic sometime this week to look at the problems I can't fix.  When I was finished I walked to the end of the dock looking at the other sailboats...a tradition of mine.  I stopped and talked to a couple of guys that just bought a newport and were working on it.  They were telling me they were new to sailing and were trying to learn all they can as fast as they can.  For instance one of them let go of the hal-le-erd and pulled the "rope" which sent the hal-le-erd to the top of the mast.  "How did you get it down?" I asked.  "Oh, I put my daughter in the swing seat and pulled her up to the top of the mast," he replied.  "So you have a bosun's chair?" I asked hoping to clarify the proper name of the swing seat.  "No," he said, "I used a swing from her swing set."
