Hi List,

I am ready to make my coolant change on my M-18 engine and I've located the coolant drain valve on the starboard side of the engine, which is near the dip stick and throttle control cable.
It consists of a small ballcock valve with a small handle . The handle axle has small spring below it, which I assume keeps it from turning by vibration. The outlet is is a small barbed fitting on which  you can attach a small hose.
The problem is that the handle appears in the open position.  It is in-line with the outlet fitting.. not accross it. It dosen't make sense.  There is no evidence of any leakage.
Possibilities--
-the valve is actually closed and placing is the closed position will open it.
- the valve is actually open, but so corroded that it does not leak.
-it's not the right valve.

It's a puzzlement- Any ideas from M-18 owners on the list?
