Hey, I live in Oceanside and I resent that...we have, ah....ah,.....lots of good bars!  Yeah!   and the girls on Coast Highway, oh yeah!,  and young Marines, yup, get to see lots of those!  and actually some very good Mexican food, a couple golf courses, a pretty good surf museum, a nice Ocean Pier to walk on or fish off of; this weekend I think there is a Open Air Jazz festival at the beach(Sept 24th, Norman Brown, Paul Taylor, Patty Austin) , they may still have motor boat rentals in O'side but they are small boats I think.  (Newport has some at the pier next to the ferry landing, but they were runabout size or open harbor puttputts, but then Newport has a lot to see inside the Harbor).  Dana Point has some nice 1/2 day sport fishing trips, if your Dad is into that, and Wave Runner rentals :) as well as one of the nicest views from the bar at Turks!    San Clemente, just down the coast from Dana Point, has a very nice shopping street (Del Mar) that runs down to the San Clemente Pier, which isn't a bad place to see a sunset.    And San Juan Capistrano has a nice Spanish Mission to see ( as well as the world famous Swallows Inn --ok, another bar, but they have good C&W!)

There are no motor boat rentals in the Dana Point area that I know of you might try Newport I do know that there are rentals in Oceanside. As for other tings there are lots of Golf courses in that area just up PCH is Laguna Beach which is good for shopping and taking in the local art stores and restaurants. just North of there is Newport Beach. TO the south there is Oceanside other than the harbor there is nothing worth mentioning until you get to Carlsbad. I hope they have a good trip.

Is there anyone still on the list from or with a boat in Dana Point?  My folks are going there for a couple of weeks and are looking for things to do in the area.  My dad is a power boater and is interested in possibly renting a boat while there for a day here or there.  Is that a possibility?

Thanks,
